Ο Peter Earle δίδαξε στο London School of Economics και είναι ομότιμος καθηγητής οικονομικής ιστορίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου. Έχει γράψει πολλά έργα κοινωνικής και ναυτικής ιστορίας, μεταξύ των οποίων: "Corsairs of Malta and Barbary", "The Pirate Wars", "The Sack of Panama: Captain Morgan and the Battle for the Carribean", "Treasure Hunt: Shipwreck, Diving and the Quest for Treasure in an Age of Heroes".
